Our Efforts Today! The living memory of WWII will soon have passed away. Those that served and remain will soon pass away too and there will then be no one to tell the story.
There was no memorial to the veterans of WWII in Gloucester, but there is one now! The WWII Memorial Committee needs your financial help.
Our memorial was dedicated on the 4th of July 2006 at 9:30 in the morning for a crowd of nearly 1,000 people. It was an honorable ceremony, which gave homage to our heroes. Please visit our homepage to view pictures of the event and of our memorial.
Our second task was to build and maintain this website so that it may include the names of the WWII veterans, their photographs, the long-term veteran residents of Gloucester, some stories and history, and of course the names of all of the generous donors whom have given us $100 or more. 900 donors are already on record as having given $100 or more.
Our third task is still in progress; we are continuing to raise money such that we may always have sufficient funds to maintain the memorial site in its original and beautiful condition over a long period of time. Landscaping, lighting, cleaning and other upkeep will be funded by our perpetual care fund.
Finally, we have published a memorial book including most of what we have on the website, such as photos, stories, lists of veterans, and other information. If you would like a copy, please contact the Veterans Center on Emerson Avenue.
We urge WWII Veterans and their families to continue to remember us with a donation in their will and also as a gift to the WWII Memorial when your loved veteran passes on. This will help us fund the perpetual care of the memorial for many years to come. Please send your donation now! To honor the memory of all of those that gave so much in that heroic effort, send your check to the WWII Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 634, Gloucester, MA 01930.
With your help it will be done!
